Dead/Alive Forest

Autumn is the 'Season of Dying' in Nature. Here in much of the United States, half of the trees stand completely bare by late October-aside from the matched smattering of conifers. The scent of a Fall forest, however, is exhilarating. Dried, deadened leaves swirl in the wind and then decompose into moisture on the ground once they land long enough. The cool air blowing over and in between tree branches seems to amplify the scent of their bark. Mosses and sagebrush cling to roots and trunks, refusing to let go. This moribund-meets-vital aroma is paradoxically beautiful in the "Dead/Alive Forest".
